Deacon George Nolan
Deacon George Nolan was ordained to the Permanent Diaconate on May 21st, 2011. He and his wife Lisa live in Montague Center and have three children – Matthew, Sean, and Conor and two grandchildren -Olivia and Kane.
Deacon George graduated with a BS Civil and Environmental Engineering degree and worked on projects through out the U.S. along with projects in Canada and Australia. After moving to Western Massachusetts, he made a career change and went into the construction industry working as a carpenter. He eventually started his own business, Bald Mountain Hosuewrights which specialized in building hand crafted timber frames for residential homes. After that, he became involved in healthcare construction working as project manager and eventually Director of Facilities for several hospitals including UMass Memorial and Baystate Wing Hospital.
Deacon George has been a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish since moving to the area. He served for several years as a deacon at Our Lady of Peace Parish before returning to Blessed Sacrament and Holy Trinity parishes. He is a volunteer chaplain at Baystate Franklin Medical Center, is involved in jail ministry at the Franklin County House of Corrections, teaches RCIA and 6th Grade Religious Education class, along with Lisa hosts Pre Cana conferences at the Newman Center in Amherst, is President of Alternatives Pregnancy Center, and served on the Board of Directors for Montague Catholic Social Ministries for over 10 years. Deacon George is an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council 133 and is a 4th degree Knight. Deacon George is a member of the Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites in the St. Joseph Chapter. He is also a member of the Catholic Life Conference Committee that presented the virtual Catholic Life Conference last October and is currently planning a Eucharistic Conference for the Fall of 2022 at the end of the Year of the Eucharist. Deacon George received a Masters Degree in Theology from Our Lady of the Elms College in 2011.
